  2. Clyde was the best scoutmaster a young man could ask for. I will always remember him for his willingness to be available to all of his scouts. He was more than organized and kept a wonderful calendar that had all activities for several months for the scouts to follow. I knew exactly when we had camp outs, what merit badges were going to be taught, and when we were going swimming.

Looking back now, I am not sure how he ever could afford to take off weekends every single month and for a week in the summer, just for the scouts. Amazing!!!

Rob mentioned one of the times he got mad, believe it or not, I remember another. We were having a scout meeting one weekday night at the church in a classroom. For some reason we were getting a little rowdy and were not listening like we should have. I remember smashing someones wrists together and Clyde saying, "That's it, we are done here!" He then walked out, scouts was over. Needless to say, I had some apologizing to do and I did so with the urging of my parents. Clyde forgave me and it never happened again.

My first summer camp was our own camp with Troop 913. Glenn and Denny Hopes were the junior leaders that taught us merit badges along with several of the parents that were there with us. I remember Glenn coming back to camp with a tick in his leg and Clyde taking care of him with love for his son. It was painful for all of us to watch, but Clyde took care of him while teaching the rest of us what to do. At that same camp out we spent a couple of hours jumping off cliffs into the lake. Clyde sat there taking pictures of us and probably wasted a ton of film since that was before digital cameras. We spent so much time just standing there looking at the lake without jumping. After we all said we were done, he came over, and jumped, no questions asked. He never seemed to be afraid of everything and that is what I remember best.

I will be forever in debt to him for who I am today and how he had an affect on me as a scout, young man, and now a father. Not only was he an example for me, but also for my father, who became a great scouter in his own right due to Clyde's example of leadership and care for the boy scouts.

I love Clyde and will remember him always as a man of service for everyone!
